Crafted Intervention

Moseley, Birmingham

Blend Architects has recently obtained planning approval for a part two-storey rear extension and a complete redesign of the front elevation for a detached property set within St Agnes Moseley Conservation Area in Birmingham.

The property was designed by Moseley born J. Brewin Holmes Architects and built in 1906. Unfortunately, the property suffered heavy damage during WWII and was rebuilt in the 1950s in a more modern style, with most of the original features of the front elevation lost.

Our proposal for the front elevation looked at the use of render to the first floor and reinstatement of original brickwork to the ground floor. A bespoke, modern stone surround and chamfered timber pier provides a feature entrance to the family home.

The development to the rear continues a similar architectural language through three identical timber-clad piers with large glazed apertures that maximise views into the established garden.

Blend Architects was commissioned to undertake RIBA Stage 1-4 services and the project is due for completion Spring/Summer 2023.
